Fibre Network Operators (FNO)
Fibre network operators such as Vumatel, Openserve, MetroFibre, and Frogfoot build and maintain the physical fibre infrastructure. These companies determine where fibre is available and which homes can connect to the network. Coverage depends entirely on whether an FNO has deployed fibre in your street, suburb, or building.
Internet Service Providers (ISP)
Internet service providers operate on top of those networks and sell fibre plans to customers. Providers like Afrihost, Webafrica, MWEB, Vox, and RSAWEB typically don’t build their own infrastructure. Instead, they purchase wholesale access from fibre network operators and offer internet services using that underlying network.
Because of this structure, multiple ISPs can be available at the same address. You may be able to choose between different providers offering similar speeds, pricing, and contract options on the same fibre network.
In some areas, a single property may even be served by more than one fibre network operator. When this happens, the same ISP can offer plans across multiple networks, sometimes with different pricing depending on the underlying infrastructure and wholesale costs.
This is why checking your address is important. Availability depends on both the fibre network operator and the ISPs that offer services on that network.
